Land Rover gaat in Solihull de productie van de Range Rover Sport en de Discovery 3 terugschroeven om overschotten te voorkomen. De productie van de Defender is daarentegen toegenomen.
Werknemers die normaal aan de productielijn van de Range Rover Sport en de Discovery staan worden ingezet om bij te springen bij de Defender wanneer dat nodig blijkt te zijn. Nu worden ze nog ingezet om vervangende werkzaamheden te verrichten.
Jaguar
Met ingang van september wordt de productie voor de Range Rover Sport op vrijdag stilgelegd en vanaf oktober zal ook de nachtdienst voor dit model worden geschrapt. Het is ook nog mogelijk dat ongeveer 100 werknemers tijdelijk naar Jaguar gaan. Vorig jaar werden al 300 werknemers naar Jaguar overgeplaatst om te helpen met de productie van de XF.
Nauwelijks sprake van daling
De verkoop voor 2008 is volgens Land Rover toch de op één na hoogste in de zestigjarige geschiedenis van het merk. Ondanks terugval in bepaalde landen is er nauwelijks sprake van een absolute daling omdat andere landen de verliezen weer compenseren. Zo werd in Rusland een toename van 100 procent behaald en gingen de verkopen in China zelfs met 150 procent omhoog.
